This paper examines the role of policies in different grid environments. A Grid technology becomes standardized and stable, various business models are envented and increasingly applied, and economic implications can be observed.Asymmetrically distributed information may allow for opportunistic behaviour of service providers or users who exploit the information gap between providers and consumers on the quality of services.

The Internet has caused a revolution in trading. Especially cheap items are now easy to buy and sell on the Internet. As a consequence, sellers nowadays offer a wide range of products on the web, creating an abundance of choice for consumers. Consumers have the opportunity to browse on different auction sites for the item they really want. Along with this success story, however, came the stories of people being cheated by fraudulent online sellers. These frauds cover a range from not delivering what has been promised, the overrating of a product´s condition, to deliberate acts of theft. They are a result of so-called asymmetric information. Trust and reputation mechanisms are intended to address this asymmetric information distribution. This article surveys the most common trust and reputation systems.

The main content of this report is the identification and definition of market mechanisms for Application Layer Networks (ALNs). On basis of the structured Market Engineering process, the work comprises the identification of requirements which adequate market mechanisms for ALNs have to fulfill. Subsequently, two mechanisms for each, the centralized and the decentralized case are described in this document. These build the theoretical foundation for the work within the following two years of the CATNETS project.

In this paper the requirements for an ALN simulation environment are analysed, as needed in the CATNETS Project. A number of grid and general purpose simulators are evaluated regarding the identified requirements for simulating economical resource allocation mechanisms in ALNs. Subsequently a suitable simulator is chosen for usage in the CATNETS project.

In Nordamerika existiert mit den Disziplinen „Information Systems“ und „Computer Science“ eine ähnliche Dualität wie im deutschen Sprachraum mit den Disziplinen „Wirtschaftsinformatik“ und „Informatik“. Nachfolgend wird anhand einer Stellenmarktanalyse versucht,Anhaltspunkte zu gewinnen, (a.) welche Entwicklungsdynamik diese beiden Disziplinen in einer Marktumgebung aufweisen und (b.) welche prinzipiellen Betätigungsmöglichkeiten sich für den akademischen Nachwuchs im deutschsprachigen Raum im nordamerikanischen Ausland eröffnen.

Der Beitrag beinhaltet die Entwicklung eines theoretischen Bezugsrahmens zur Erklärung des Phänomens des Outsourcing von Teilfunktionen der Informationsverarbeitung. Auf Basis einer systematischen Analyse von Theorien der Unternehmung werden die Transaktionskostentheorie,die Resource-based Theory und die Power Theory als geeignete Erklärungsansätze herausgearbeitet. Aus ihnen werden Propositionen bezüglich der Einflußfaktoren des Outsourcing der Informationsverarbeitung abgeleitet und zu einem multitheoretischen Kontingenzmodell zusammengeführt. Dieses dient als Ausgangspunkt einer konfirmatorischen empirischen Untersuchung.
