The service-productivity learning cockpit – a business intelligence tool for service enterprises

- The paper describes the development of an agent-based simulation tool for hospital managers to manage their productivity of services, especially in the context of supporting services like patient transport logistics. The learning cockpit allows hospital managers to see how the change of inputs changes the overall perceived customer values of all stakeholders and therefore to get a visualization of the impacts their decisions cause. The paper introduces the general research domain service-productivity, followed by a description of the development steps of artefact creation. The learning cockpit is part of a research project called BELOUGA, which is funded by the German government.

Denying access to water? Moral values and commercialization policies in Khartoum governmental water management

- This contribution draws on empirical fieldwork carried out in Khartoum/Sudan in 2009/2010 in order to examine the role of value systems in recent commercialization policies of Khartoum governmental water management. The first section provides background information about the current water supply system in Khartoum, which is a necessary precondition to understand current reform processes. The second section singles out three major aspects of commercialization policies and their contestations in greater detail: increases in water prices, increases in water cuts in case of unpaid water bills, and installations of prepaid water meters. The third section summarizes these contestations and argues that value systems are one major reason why current reform processes are not implemented in the way they were perceived.

- Quoique chronologiquement antérieure à la littérature congolaise de langue française, la littérature écrite en langues congolaises, au sens anglais de creative writing ou français de littérature d’imagination, est aujourd’hui peu développée et partant peu connue. Augustin Lemba, de son vrai nom Auguste De Haes, est ce prêtre belge émule du missionnaire suédois John Petterson qui, en 1935, écrivit Nsamu a Mpanzu (La vie de Mpanzu), première œuvre narrative d’imagination et premier roman de langue congolaise, en l’occurrence le kikongo. Arrivé au Congo belge en 1956 à l’âge de 26 ans, il exerce son ministère dans diverses paroisses de Kinshasa et choisit, comme nom d’écriture, celui de «Lemba (St) Augustin», paroisse où il est curé quand, en 1967, il écrit Mokili ngonga e (A chacun son tour), son premier roman. Celui-ci est suivi de deux autres : Nabalaki basi mibale (Mes deux épouses) et Bombula (nom de l’héroine).
Le but de cet article est de faire connaitre A. Lemba et son œuvre, lui dont l’histoire rappelle celle du portugais Afonso Alvarez évoquée naguère par l’auteur allemand du Manuel de littérature néo-africaine. Aujourd’hui en tête des romanciers de cette langue de la capitale congolaise, cet auteur est peu connu sous sa véritable identité et à ce sujet, mon propre exemple est instructif. En effet, alors que j’enseignais ses œuvres à mes étudiants depuis les années 70, je ne l’ai découvert qu’en 2004, grâce au mémoire que je dirigeais sur l’un de ses romans.

- Zeitarbeit ist nicht gleich Zeitarbeit, sondern kann nach der Qualifikation der Zeitarbeitnehmer in drei Segmente zerlegt werden. Waren früher die Senkung der Kosten und der Einsatz von Helfern charakteristisch für dieses Flexibilisierungsinstrument, sind es mittlerweile ein flexibler Personaleinsatz und die Auslagerung von Personalfunktionen. Dabei werden sowohl Helfer wie auch Fachkräfte und Spezialisten eingesetzt. Der Beitrag ist Ergebnis einer Befragung von Industrieunternehmen und beleuchtet Merkmale und Motive der Zeitarbeitsnutzung in der Industrie sowie deren Risiken und ihren Beitrag zum Unternehmenserfolg.
